Golf Course: 9.0
Troon North Pinnacle is an immaculately kept up, desert course that has several small vista tee shots, large boulders, and an elegant layout. You will be hard-pressed to find another course in Arizona that is well-groomed as Troon North.
This course is considered the Jewel of the Troon Family of Courses, and they spare no expense on this course. The scenery on and around the course is great; the layout is fantastic, the greens run true and are always in fast/perfect condition. The last time I played there, the greens were running a 13 and rolled as pure as greens can roll.
Average Golfer Playability: 7.0
This course is not easy by any means, but it’s not that tricky. It has some challenging tee shots and a few blind shots. However, the layout is all around fair. Most of the difficulty at Troon North comes on the greens. They don’t hold as well as I would like, but they do roll pure and true.
Several greens on the front side are very hard, and shots into them just seem to skid right off the green. The greens tend to have many tricky reads and lots of hills, tiers, and false fronts. Make sure to always be below the hole and on the proper tier or you will be in for a long day with the putter.
This course is located in Scottsdale and located close to almost anything you might need. Many people on a golf trip tend to stay in Scottsdale, so this is a great course to play the day you arrive. It’s only about a 30-minute drive from Sky Harbor Airport, and makes for a great start to any golf trip.
Pro Shop: 10
This course is the definition of a resort course, so they have a massive proshop with anything that you could want to buy. They have a wide selection of shirts, kick knacks, and everything a golfer would need. You won’t be disappointed in this shop at all.
The restaurant on-site is great. I’ve eaten every breakfast, lunch, and dinner here through the years, and I’ve never been disappointed. They also have a great patio area that overlooks the 18th and is a great place to hang out after your round.
There is a reason that Troon North (both Pinnacle and Monument Courses) are always ranked highly in the Arizona Rankings and generally the Pinnacle course is in the USA Top 100 Public. Every part of this course screams—first class!
Everything here is nice, from the practice facility, to the restaurant, the manicured tee boxes, fairways you could putt out of, to the boulders along the rough. This course is expensive, but it’s worth every penny!
